What is PIP? Automobile accident injury is protected by Personal Injury Protection Plan(PIP) in Maryland. PIP is in your automobile insurance policy, not in the other party's caused the trouble. When there is an accident, sometimes it takes time to find out who's fault it was. But you may need a medical care immediatly. So, your initial medical bill is going to be covered by PIP in your insurance , regardless of the cause of accident. And the paid medical bill from the PIP will be recovered later if it was not your fault when you make the proper step for reimbursement or you have a lawyer. Anyway, you are protected by the law not being penalized by your insurance company just because of using your own PIP coverage. It will not raise up your insurance premium. It is limited to $2,500, $5,000, or $10,000. If you use your PIP, then it will help to lower your medical balance at the end, which will definately increase your portion of reimbursement at the time of settlement of the case. So, lawyers encourage their clients to use their PIP!
